Yes. A zoning permit is required if you are constructing an addition to an existing building, new building, fence, as well as certain other physical improvements. It is best to contact the Zoning Administrator with specific questions to determine if an improvement requires a zoning permit.
The Township does not issue building permits. Building permits must be obtained from the Oceana County Building Department in Hart.
If you are making any structural changes, building a new building, making electrical, plumbing, or mechanical upgrades, a building permit is required. For more information about the types of building permits and fees associated, please visit the the Oceana County Building Department.
No. Either a zoning and/or building permit are required prior to starting any construction work.
Zoning is a process for orderly growth, suitable use of land and to promote and safeguard the public health, safety, and general welfare of Pentwater Township residents.
The same Community Zoning Ordinance and Master Plan govern the Township and Village of Pentwater. However, each community has its own zoning administrator, planning commission, and zoning board of appeals.
The Township Supervisor with the approval of the Township Board appoints the Zoning Administrator.
Keith Edwards is the Township Zoning Administrator. Consult with Keith during planning stages of your construction project to make sure the project meets the requirements of the zoning ordinance.
Keith is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the zoning ordinance. He is also the Township civil infraction enforcement officer. Keith processes all applications received by the Township dealing with zoning, planning, commission activity, and zoning board of appeals issues.
The zoning administrator is the custodian of the official zoning district map. He also maintains the official files for zoning permits issued and the planning commission and zoning board of appeals records.
The zoning administrator is a part-time position in Pentwater Township.
